Dr. Nora J. Baladerian conducted three days of trainings for staff, service providers, clients, and parents at the Redwood Coast Regional Center. The training series was sponsored by Area Board I of the State Council on Developmental Disabilities. The first day consisted of a risk reduction workshop for agency staff and service providers. The second day included a half-day training for service providers on abuse detection and response, as well as a half-day training for self-advocates on risk reduction and creating an individualized risk reduction plan. The third day was devoted to teaching parents about abuse: how to reduce risk, how to identify abuse, and how to respond.

A keynote address focused on the vulnerability of people with developmental disabilities to abuse, and discuss ways to help reduce such risk. A second presentation focused on how people with developmental disabilities become unwitting sex offenders because they have never been taught the "rules of sex."

She helped the staff to understand specific steps that can be taken by clients, parents, and agency staff to reduce risk. She taught them how to create an Individual Reduction Plan (IRP) for a client. She did follow up work with the agency to help it develop “zero tolerance” policies on abuse for the agency.

Dr. Nora Baladerian presented a one day training on "Forensic Interviewing of Individuals with Developmental Disabilities" and a half day training on "Forensic Assessment of Consent to Sex." These trainings were sponsored by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council, a state agency that governs training for all of the state's law enforcement personnel. The training was part of a sex-crimes investigation course offered by the Department of Criminal Justice Training, Kentucky State Police, and the Kentucky Association of Sexual Assault Programs.
